Independence Gold Mine State Park
Hatcher Pass Alaska

The great gold mining country of Willow Creek at Hatcher pass was a boom town that went bust. The State of Alaska is reclaiming the area and building a park. Reconstruction of the old bunk houses and sluice ways has been going on for several years.
The trail to Hatcher led along the glaciers of the Kinit tidal basin. The trail which is now Kinit road, was winding and treacherous to a 49'er as he made his way to the gold fields of Willow Creek.
